Today I am going to talk about speaking voice and how to improve your speaking voice

It is no secret that being able to speak well can have great impact on your professional and personal life.

Many of us are not aware how crucial the sound of one's voice is.

All this time, you have been judging other people  by the way he or she sounds and they do the same to you do.

The sound of your voice can influence the impact of your message.

Do you know that the impression you make on others is not just what you say?

The pitch, inflection and clarity of your voice says more than what you actually say.

This is classified as non-verbal communication known as paralinguistic.

People judge your personality by the quality of your speaking voice and the way you say them at the moment of speaking.

They can deduce whether you are feeling confident, nervous, excited, depressed, friendly or aggressive.

For instance if you rush through your speech, you will give an impression to people that you lack confidence or nervous.

And if you would to drawl words out, others would assume you are either a bore or you are supercilious.

Then there are other give away factors, for examples your accent, your mood and your intelligence or expertise.

When they listen to your speaking voice, they can know your origin, whether your enthusiastic or do you know actually what you are talking about.

So remember, the way you say, speaks volume.

Sadly, it can be unfair to you, if you give your listeners a wrong impression.

For instance, even though you are an expert in a particular subject, but if you mumble nervously when giving a presenting, they will assume you are not that knowledgeable or maybe even a scam!

Don't try to sound like someone else, which is unnatural to you.

Every one of us has our own unique voice. You should instead work on your own unique qualities of your own voice.

When I say quality of your voice, I mean the tone, pitch, volume and clarity.

The two ingredient of a well-modulated voice are articulation and inflection.

When you speak, make use of your breath to stress your key point.

Always take a breath at the end of each phrase.

Learn to speak from your diaphragm.

Use your breath to push out your words as you speak.

Just like singing, your breathing is very important when you want to speak well.

Moderate your volume, to make sure you are not shouting.

Beware of your pitch and pace as well. All these three should balanced to produce a soothingly pleasant voice to carry your message across effectively.

Articulation or enunciation. It means speak clearly and expressively.

When you pronounce each syllable, make sure you exaggerate your lip movement.

Give value and meaning to every word when you speak.

Put stress and emphasis on words to give them meaning.

One good way to practice your articulation is the use of tongue twisters. Don't rush, pronounce every syllable clearly and distinctively.

You should vary your pitch and tone to put emphasis on certain key words. This is what we called inflection of your voice.

When you are conducting a presentation or delivering a speech, use a conversational, but authoritative voice.

Speak like you are are engaging in a personal conversation with some close friends.

Conversational tone creates a better relationship with the audience.

If you about to give a speech or any kind of public speaking, there are several things you should do to warm up your speaking voice before you open your mouth to speak to an audience.

For a start, you can talk to yourself to loosen up your mouth, lips and tongue.

Blow air through your lips.

Move or distort your face making various facial expressions. Stick out your tongue out, hum or force a yawn.

You can also stretch your jaw while biting your teeth together.

Turn your head side to side.

Roll your head in half-circles and roll your shoulders.

All these may appear kind of silly, but it helps to loosen up and it is a popular way to overcome speech anxiety

When your power of verbal communication skills increases, so does your confidence. So it is high time to improve your speaking voice.
