Do you know that speech introduction or public speaking introduction is very important? Make sure you start off presentation opening with a big bang.
Here are four public speaking introductions or speech openings you should avoid:
1. No Apology
Never begin a speech or presentation with an apology.
Of course, unless you accidentally kick someone's foot while on your way to the podium, or accidentally knock the podium off the stage.
You see, when you apologize, your audience will expect something bad or negative.
It sends out very bad vibes to your audience.
Obviously it will attract attention, which your audience might not have notice in the first place.
2. Avoid Cliched Opening
I am sure you have heard cliched openings. Something like: "I came across this interesting news...", "What if I tell you,..." or some other similar presentation openings.
There is nothing wrong with cliched openings.
They lack originality and they lack punch and surprises.
Remember you have to grab your listeners the moment you stand up to speak. There is only one speech introduction.Don't lose it.
3. Get On With It
I have seen speakers walking up to the lectern and began shuffling their notes, arranging the visual aids or only started checking/adjusting the microphone.
And let the whole world waited for them. Your audience will get annoyed with your unprofessional antics. Just be well prepared.
4. You Are Not A Stand-up Comic
You can start off with a relevant joke as an your speech introduction or presentation opening.
Then immediately go straight to your main point.
Don't keep on telling jokes, thinking it is a good way to build rapport with your audience. Just smile and move on with your presentation.
You might have all the persuasive public speaking skills, but one of these four kind of speech introduction could ruin your presentation or speeches. [image]
